Licence PL793 was awarded to Faroe in January 2015 as part of the 2014 APA licensing round.  This licence is located in the Grimsan Basin, Haltenbanken, approximately 20 kilometres south west of the Draugen Field and less than 10 kilometres south east of the Njord Field.

In August 2015 exploration well 6407/10-5 commenced on the Portrush Prospect.  On 11 September 2015 it was announced that the objective section in the Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks (the Rogn and Melke formations) had been encountered with a thickness of about 330 metres and whilst 134 metres was reservoir sand, of variable quality, no hydrocarbons were encountered.

Well 6407/10-5 was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,850 metres below sea level and was terminated in the objective interval. This well was the first exploration well to be drilled in this production licence. The well was drilled ahead of schedule using the drilling facility Transocean Barents and operated by AS Norske Shell.

Work is currently underway to evaluate the remaining potential of the licence taking in to account the results of the well and using newly reprocessed seismic data.  This evaluation is expected to be completed during 2017.
